Café Mirage Grill & Lounge has been a neighborhood favourite in the Kennedy Commons plaza for as long as some of us can remember – as far back to when AMC Theatres was still around. Considered as one of the best dessert spots on Kennedy Road, there’s no doubt that this establishment is frequented by new and existing loyal customers for its sweet and indulgent offerings. What many don’t come to realize is that Café Mirage is way more than a decadent waffle or rich piece of chocolate cake – it’s home to a vast menu dedicated to meet your every craving. From all-day breakfast, fresh pizzas and homemade burgers (Halal-certified), to delicious Mediterranean-inspired mains and vegan-friendly options, Mirage Grill & Lounge truly is your one-stop shop for all your dining needs.
If you’ve never visited Café Mirage, you’re in for treat. Its warm ambiance and relaxed atmosphere makes this restaurant the perfect spot to catch up with friends, celebrate a special occasion, or go-to for an intimate date night spot. It’s even great for an after-work gathering – with daily happy hour specials from 3-6pm and 9pm-close, featuring drinks from $3.50 and small bites starting at $2.50. On Fridays, they even have half-priced nachos! It’s the ideal spot in the heart of Scarborough to spend time with family and friends. We don’t doubt you’ll consider Café Mirage the next time you’re on the hunt for cold drinks and tasty eats.
For starters, we opted for the Pita and Dip with Hummus (other options include roasted red pepper, baba ghanouj, ancho-chipotle or spinach dip), and the Calamari. The Pita was nice and warm when it arrived making it the perfect pairing with the fresh hummus, drizzled with olive oil and topped with olives. The calamari was crunchy and fresh, and the combination with the sweet chili sauce elevated this appetizer to the next level! Some other appetizers on the menu include: chicken wings, quesadillas, vegetarian Thai spring rolls, bruschetta and shrimp cocktail.
Our server was very friendly and helped us narrow down our options (as we had so much to choose from!). We kindly took her suggestions to heart and could not have been happier. For our main meals, we ordered the Mirage Turkey Sandwich and the Tuscan Chicken entrée. Let us advise – the portions are very generous and well worth the price! The Mirage Turkey Sandwich featured sliced smoked turkey breast, mushrooms, fresh tomatoes, grilled with Swiss cheese on toasted focaccia bread. Served with a side of crunchy sweet potato fries, this meal was very satisfying and would make a perfect take-out lunch.
The Tuscan Chicken entrée features a pan-seared herbed chicken breast sautéed with oven-roasted garlic and roasted red peppers in a cream sauce. Paired with their house rice, it was the perfect side to soak up all the delicious flavours from the marinade (side options also include French fries or mixed veggies). Luckily, it was a big enough portion to save some for lunch the next day!
Of course we had to end our meal with a little something to satisfy our sweet tooth – and what better place to be in than Café Mirage! Crepes, sundaes, cakes & pies? There’s a large selection of sugary treats! We were recommended the Perfect Couple and the Mocha Crunch cake. The Perfect Couple features a delicious crispy waffle – one side accompanied by high quality, silky vanilla ice cream, fresh strawberries and strawberry puree, and the other side with rich chocolate ice cream, topped with fresh sliced bananas and drizzled in a luscious chocolate syrup. The Perfect Couple is large enough for sharing, but we promise it’s so good you’ll want to eat the whole thing!
The Mocha Crunch is perfect for all the chocolate lovers out there, featuring layers of rich chocolate fudge and a creamy mocha mousse, topped with slivered almonds and chocolate swirls. The notes of coffee in combination with the chocolate pairings and crunchy almonds was a heavenly trio. Both desserts were presented beautifully and definitely made them IG-worthy, after all who doesn’t love a good dessert pic? Meeting both the chocolate and fruit flavour profiles all in one, we couldn’t resist eating them both to the last bite!
